Can I drive in Nevada with a foreign driver’s license from another country?

TL;DR

  • You can legally drive in Nevada with a valid foreign driver’s license until it expires.
  • Some non-citizens may qualify for a Nevada driver’s license depending on their immigration status.
  • Tourists and exchange students are not eligible for a Nevada driver’s license.

People with a valid and current driver’s license issued from a foreign country may drive in Nevada. Once the foreign license expires, then the person will need to get the foreign license renewed or…if eligible…get a Nevada driver’s license.

Some immigrants such as green card-holders may be eligible for a Nevada driver’s license. However, tourists and exchange students are never eligible for a Nevada driver’s license. Non-citizens may contact the Nevada DMV and provide them with their status code to learn whether they may be eligible for a license.

Eligible foreigners who wish to get a Nevada driver’s license are required to take a:

  • written test,
  • vision test, and
  • on-road test
